Your first counselling session Nervousness is typical for almost everyone before their first counselling session. When you talk to someone you don't know about something that bothers or upsets you, it's natural to feel uncomfortable. Keep in mind that I am prepared to assist you as best as I can and am on your side. Counselling for the first time can be daunting, but most individuals find it simpler than expected.

Your first counselling session
Nervousness is typical for almost everyone before their first counselling session. When you talk to someone you don't know about something that bothers or upsets you, it's natural to feel uncomfortable. Keep in mind that I am prepared to assist you as best as I can and am on your side. Counselling for the first time can be daunting, but most individuals find it simpler than expected.

Finding the office
My practice is based at The Life Academy Wellbeing Centre, 3B Greenhill Park, Edinburgh, EH10 4DW. You can find detailed instructions on how to find the office here. If you need parking, please let me know in advance. In any case, paid on-street parking is available directly outside the building.

Preparation
It is common practice for a counsellor to inquire about the client's motivation for seeking help and the client's goals for therapy during the initial session. As you can anticipate, I will strive to grasp the circumstances that led to your current situation by asking you questions. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask me.

Take your time
You're not obligated to immediately reveal every private aspect of your life. Please provide me with as much information about your problem as you can, but go at your own pace. I won't pressurise or rush you into discussing anything you aren't ready to discuss. You can take as much time as you need because this is your space.

Duration of sessions
Individual counselling sessions are 50 minutes long.

Payment
The cost for the initial assessment is £35. After that, the cost for each session is £55.

Complaints
If you are unhappy with the service you receive, please discuss this with me. If you feel unable to do so or do not receive a satisfactory resolution, then you have the right to complain to my professional body, the COSCA. Further details about the complaints procedure can be found here: https://cosca.org.uk/guidance-policies/complaints.
